Vrelo may be World's deepest underwater cave
The Italian cave diver Luigi Casati, who is part of the international cave diving expedition that explore underwater Vrelo cave in the Canyon of Matka, while his second diving reach the depth of 159 meters.
- Vrelo is impressive cave, with no end in sight, Casati said Saturday.
During his first diving he reached to 140 meters i.e. 125 meters where cave divides into two branches and he continued to move on the right one reaching the depth to 140 meters. His second diving was deeper. This branch, according to Casati, has ellipsoid form with 30x10 meters dimensions.
Italian diver will dive deeper for the third time on Monday. International expedition will explore Vrelo cave by August 15 and will try to prove the theory that Vrelo is the deepest cave in Europe and maybe in the world.
Vrelo, which was nominated for the new Seven World Wonders, has been researched for several times. Its horizontal length is 450 meters and 98 meters in vertical, where from a new gap opens which bottom has not been reached.
According to speleologists' assessments, Vrelo's depth is 330m, thus being the deepest underwater cave in the world, surpassing the Bushman Hole in South Africa, which holds the Guinness Record with 282 meters.
